Women! Take Control of Your Health on International Women’s Day

Every March, on the eighth to be exact, the world celebrates International Women's Day. On this occasion, we want to thank all the women who work tirelessly to ensure life goes smoothly. We see you, and we appreciate you!

Times such as International Women’s Day create an opportunity to reflect on women everywhere and their distinctive lives. One of the missions behind this day is to consider women's health.

With that in mind, you can use this day to take control of your health (or at least give you a place to start). Although there are many ways to do so—we've chosen just a few of our favourite approaches.

Nine Ways to Take Control of Your Health

Check on Yourself

Awareness of your health is one of the best things you can do. When you think critically about your health and check that everything is okay, you can quickly realise when something isn't right.

Schedule some time to do a breast exam on yourself and feel for any lumps or other problems. At the same time, look over your entire body for any new skin blemishes or strange marks. Make an appointment with your doctor if you spot anything worrisome.

Focus on Your Mental Health

Besides physical health, you also need to look after your mental health. A sound mind and positive spirit can help you to cope with life's daily stresses.

Starting today, make it an everyday habit to do an activity that lightens your mental load and helps to improve your mental health. For instance, you could write in a gratitude journal, meditate daily, or do deep breathing exercises.

Eat Fruit and Vegetables Daily

What you put into your body strongly impacts your health and how you sustain energy throughout your day. Eating a balanced diet can help you realise this goal much easier, and one of the most critical components is your intake of fruits and vegetables.

Take control of your health by eating several portions of fruits and vegetables daily. Add some fruit to your cereal, have a salad for lunch, or make a smoothie to drink on the run when you have a busy day.

Do you struggle to eat fruit and vegetables? Challenge yourself to eat just one extra portion a day! It will make a difference already.

Maintain Your Beauty

Looking beautiful is something that most women strive to do, so making a beauty routine part of your life is a great way to embrace your health. Your day should include a morning and evening routine where you take care of your skin and hair.

Make a point of cleansing, toning, and moisturising your skin and body with high-quality products like Kinvara or Trilogy. Schedule some time into your week to exfoliate or put on a face mask. You could even go to the spa, get a facial, or have your nails done. The most important thing is to do something that makes you feel beautiful.

Embrace Your Health

To take control of your health, you have to go for regular check-ups with your physician and any other medical professionals deemed necessary. Let them check all your vitals —such as blood pressure, heart rate, and glucose levels. In some cases, your physician may request some routine blood tests. Their reasoning behind the request is usually to get them done as soon as possible.

Schedule a visit to the dentist to check for any cavities and get your teeth cleaned professionally. A dermatologist and nutritionist visit can also help to address any skin or weight-related issues. It's always better to get preventative care to avoid long lasting health issues.

If you have any other concerns, find a healthcare professional to help you address them. Remember, getting a mammogram and pap smear every few years is always encouraged.

Make Time for Exercise

Nobody can deny that exercise has many benefits for your mind and body. It's also a great way to embrace your health for International Women's Day.

Spend some time doing your favourite exercises today. As far as you are moving your body and staying consistent, the exercise is truly up to you. Go for a walk, do some yoga, or join a kickboxing class. Whatever you want.

Why not get a friend involved too? Invite them to get fit with you and keep each other accountable over the coming months. It's always more fun when someone else goes along for the ride.

Get Enough Sleep

The importance of sleep cannot be overlooked — getting sufficient rest every day is essential. Aim for seven hours of sleep per night but try for a bit more if you have the extra time.

Take control of your health by creating a solid bedtime routine to ensure you get a restful night. It starts with putting down your electronics or, even better, switching them off for the night. Calm down by taking a shower or bath and meditating or reflecting on the day for a few minutes. Follow this up with some light reading or listening to music before settling into bed.

Supplements

Support your health by adding supplements to your daily routine. Even with the best intentions, watching your diet, and getting sufficient sleep, there is always the possibility that you won't get enough of the essential nutrients you need for peak performance.
