Do you experience muscle cramps or spasms? Do you enjoy 1 or more cups of coffee a day? Do you find it hard to fall asleep and stay asleep?  Do you feel consistently fatigued and not rested? Does it take you longer to recover after exercise? Do you suffer from regular constipation?

These are all ways in which your body is telling you that you may be deficient or low in the essential mineral Magnesium.

Could your daily food and lifestyle choices be depleting your limited Magnesium stores?

  • Alcohol and coffee consumption deplete your magnesium stores due to their diuretic effects.
  • Regular exercise and sauna usage can cause you to lose magnesium though increased sweating.
  • Any disruption of the gastro intestinal tract as a result of IBS, food sensitivities or dysbiosis can interfere with the body's ability to absorb magnesium.
  • Tannins in tea can bind and remove essential minerals such as magnesium and reduce their absorption. This is important when we consider how much tea we consume on a daily basis in Ireland!
  • Stress including physical, emotional, chemical and environmental can mediate a magnesium deficiency as magnesium it gets used up during your body's stress response.

  • Fluoride found in our water supply can bind to magnesium forming an insoluble bond called Magnesium Fluoride (MgF2) making it unavailable to the body.

So what to do? How can you increase your magnesium levels?

Firstly, you could consider reducing consumption of foods that may deplete your mineral stores such as refined white flour and high sugar foods.

Instead look to increase your consumption of foods high in magnesium, such as avocados, dark green leafy green and variety of organic seeds and nuts. If you're eating chocolate to restore some of your magnesium, make sure it’s at least 70% cocoa or raw cacao powder/nibs.

However, even if you eat a healthy diet, you will likely still need to supplement with magnesium as much of our soils where our vegetables are grown are depleted in these essential minerals also.

Therefore we suggest you look at supplementing a highly absorbable and ionised magnesium citrate powder such as MAG365.

Why a ionic magnesium citrate powder?

Magnesium is a metal that has to be bound to another element for the body to be able to assimilate it. Most tablets rely on the stomach acid to ionise or activate the magnesium and make it bioavailable, and for many people this can be challenging.

However the magnesium in Mag365 is sourced from seawater and the citric acid is from non-GMO sugar beets and once they are activated by the hot water they predigest in the glass and not in your stomach, making MAG365 much easier to absorb.

What to do?

Add 1 teaspoon of MAG365 powder into half a mug of hot/warm water and watch it 'fizz'. This is when the MAG365 activates and predigests to become highly bioavailable to the body. Top up your mug with some cold water and sip.
